Kroger Family of Stores' Pound for Pound Challenge‏ and Giveaway

image of the pound for pound challenge logoAs those who follow my site may know, back in August of 2008, I began a weight-loss program in order to reclaim my life. You see, back then I weighed a whopping 296 pounds of pure, unadulterated fat. It happened that one day I passed in front of a window and when I glanced up, I saw a stranger staring back at me. It was then and there that I decided I HAD to lose weight. I went online (well, there's a shock) and looked into exercise machines and since my preferred method of exercise is strength training, I narrowed my search to those types of machines. Since I'm cheap and didn't want to spend a great deal of money, I quickly eliminated machines costing too much (over $250). After my search, I ended up getting my beloved Total Gym and I've been using it ever since.

On the day that my Total Gym arrived, I had my annual doctor's appointment. After my blood test, he called me and informed me that "you are on the cusp of type-two diabetes." Yep, those were his exact words. Even though I was already planning on losing weight, this motivated me even more. Skipping ahead to today, I currently weigh 202 pounds and have lost well over 100 pounds of fat. I know, the math doesn't add up, but remember, I do strength training and I can modestly say that I have gained, using a conservative estimate, over 25 pounds of muscle. I am also happy to report that my latest blood test has come back negative for diabetes.

As of today, I still have another twenty pounds to lose and if you are thinking of losing some weight, I have some good news for you, because from now through June 30, 2010, for every pound you pledge to lose, the Pound For Pound Challenge will donate 14¢ to Feeding America® - enough to deliver one pound of groceries to a local food bank. So, you will not only helping yourself, but you will be helping others as well. It's very quick and easy to participate: just go to the Pound for Pound Challenge and follow the few simple steps (oh, and please tell your friends). I joined yesterday and pledged to lose ten pounds.

Before you start a weight loss regime, you may want to take a few moments and do a few things. The first and most obvious is to step on the scale and weigh yourself, although that’s probably how you ended-up here in the first place. Next, take a tape measure and measure your legs, hips, waist, (this is the area just above your belly button), chest, arms, and your neck. Why do I need to measure my legs and arms? Well, when you begin to lose fat, the first places where you will see a decrease in size will be the extremities (your legs and arms). Contrary to popular belief, and wishful thinking, the abdominal area is the last place where you will lose the inches.

  1. Way to go on all the weight loss. You've certainly got more motivation and will power than I would ever have. I've never been able to diet. Right now I'm not over weight but I do need to get into exercising more, I'm getting too lazy...lol
