logo for Green GiantHow many times have you just finished preparing a delicious chicken breast or a juicy steak, but when you put it on the plate, you have nothing to go with it? Yes, it does look very lonely there all by itself; it needs some friends to keep it company! You could break out the pot and steam some veggies or you could roast some potatoes to go with it. But wait, there's an easier way. With a dash of imagination, a pinch of culinary skill, and a heap of flavor, Green Giant Seasoned Steamers™ are giving you a new reason to enjoy eating your vegetables. Shake up your vegetable routine with these flavorful, chef-inspired options that are seasoned to perfection, without a drop of sauce.

That's right, you can now enjoy your veggies without any added sauce. Can you think of a better way to brighten-up your meal, than to add some freshly steamed vegetables? As, as a added benefit, you don't have to worry about cleaning a bunch of pots and pans later, which sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Flushy, Trashy and Sinky Product Review and Giveaway

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

Contest is now closed.

Congratulations, BeadedTail!!

I will be contacting you for your mailing information. I want to take this time to thank all of you who have participated and I hope that you will come back again for the next giveaway.
I know, it's a funny name for a product, but it is very descriptive of what it does. Flushy, Trashy, and Sinky are professional-strength cleaning products that you can use in your own home. Now, even though these products are professional-strength, they are safe to use in your own home. You see, they use plant-based ingredients which are not only Eco-friendly, but also non-toxic and bio-degradable. So, you get the best of both worlds: cleaning products that are both Professional strength AND safe to use! For additional information on these and more of their natural household cleaning products, please visit my friends at  Natural House.

logo of Natural HouseA few weeks ago, I received a 30-day supply of Flushy, Trashy, and Sinky to review. When I first received the package, I have to admit that I was somewhat taken back at the small size: I received 4 pouches each of the Flushy and Sinky; along with 4-ounces of Trashy. But, after thinking about it for a moment, I realized that I'm only going to be cleaning the toilet and garbage disposal once each week. So, I will only need four pouches (If you have more than one toilet, like us, you may need to get two (2) packages of Flushy to last a month). As for the Trashy, I found in my first application that a little goes a long way and I have yet to even hit the halfway point on the bottle. Now, let's take a look at each one.

photo of Flushy Flushy: As I mentioned, this package contains four (4) water soluble pouches, which you will use to clean your toilet. All you do is take one (1) pouch and drop it into your toilet, wait about 5-10 seconds for it to start foaming, then you take your toilet brush and clean as you normally would.
Flushy will naturally digest odors at their source leaving a fresh botanical scent. I have to admit that I have used many chemicals to clean toilets over the years and this is one of the freshest scents that I have smelled. Flushy will remove stains, hard water rings, and rust streaks leaving the water a clean, aqua blue color. This blue color will disappear after the first flush, but the scent will remain for a while. As for the hard water and rust stains, it did not totally remove them on the first application, but after only two (2) treatments, they are noticeably fainter and I have no doubt that they will disappear totally after a few more uses. Although we are on a city sewer system, Natural House states that Flushy promotes healthy septic tanks and breaks down waste.

After using Flushy for a few weeks, I have to say that I am very pleased with it's performance. It has begun to remove our rust and hard water stains and is keeping our toilet clean and smelling good. After all, a clean toilet is a happy one.

photo of Sinky Sinky: This package also contains four (4) foaming pouches. With these, you place one (1) pouch in the drain and run the hot water for approximately 10-15 seconds, where the pouch will dissolve and begin to foam. If you have a garbage disposal, turn it on for a few seconds to help Sinky to clean and deodorize it. Since it was difficult to actually see Sinky in action when I placed it in our disposal, I took a flashlight and observed it in action. Sure enough, a few seconds after the hot water hit, Sinky began to foam. Once I was sure that it was actually working, I turned-on our garbage disposal and let Sinky do its work. These cleaning packets are said to help break down grease and food scraps to help prevent clogs and slow drains. Used weekly, Sinky will scour your drain and disposal driving-out odors at their source leaving a fresh, botanical scent.

Again, once I completed the first treatment, I noticed a fresh scent coming from our disposal, which is much better than what it smelled like before. I half expected the old "garbage disposal" smell to return after a few days, but to my surprise, it didn't. With the second application, I even began to notice a marked improvement on our slow drain. I didn't expect Sinky to be able to completely free-up our drain on the first try, but, as with Flushy, I have noticed an improvement with only the second application.

photo of Trashy Trashy: This guy comes in a 4-ounce spray bottle. Although you may not think this would be near enough to last a month, I have to say that a little goes a long way with Trashy. I use it on our cat litter boxes (we have two, because we have picky cats) and on our indoor trash container. Whenever I change the cat box, which is several times a day, I give it a spray of Trashy along the edge and wipe it down with a piece of toilet paper (although you can just let it evaporate on its own within a few minutes) and I immediately get a nice, fresh scent and the cat odor vanishes.Surprisingly, after only a few applications, the regular litter box odor that we usually smelled in the house has vanished. I also use Trashy whenever I change the trash bag. I give the bottom of the trash container one or two sprays and then put in the bag. Again, the odor is gone and the active ingredients keep odors from coming back.

You can use Trashy for any place where odors may be present: Outside garbage cans, diaper pails (I really wish this would have been around when our kids were still in diapers), recycling containers, bathroom containers, and any "trashy," smelly container you may have.

After using Trashy for the last few weeks, I am very pleased with the results. We no longer have the odors associated with our trash can and the litter boxes. In fact, except for seeing our cats when you come into our house, you would not know we had any.

With that being said,  I have used Flushy, Trashy, and Sinky for almost three weeks and in that time, I have to say that I have been impressed with the products. I know that I will be planning on continuing to use these products. And, since I have been so pleased with Flushy, Trashy, and Sinky, my wife and I are going to be taking a look at trying some of their other products.

To learn even more about these great products, please take a few moments and view this video they made (Hint: Who is the hero of this saga? Answer this question in the appropriate entry and this will count as two (2) entries in the contest)...

You can purchase these products directly from Natural House or you can find Flushy,Trashy, and Sinky at Amazon. As a side-note, they are eligible for Supersaver shipping, so if you're short of the $25 limit to qualify on your order, at only $4.99 each, these products make a great "stocking stuffer" to make-up the difference.

Funny Bacon T-Shirts Review and Giveaway

Contest is now closed.

Congratulations, Louise!!

I will be contacting you for your mailing information. I want to thank all of you who have participated and I hope that you will come back again for the next giveaway

They say everything is better with bacon, but who would have thought that this applies to T-shirts? Well, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised when my t-shirt from Bacon Wrapped Tees arrived in the mail. As you can tell from the picture, they had a lot of fun designing this shirt. I particularly like it, because I am currently teaching my oldest (who calls it an awesome shirt) chemistry, so it is especially relevant for me. I mean, spelling out BACON by using the periodic table? I mean, it's both fun AND instructive (it also kinda makes me hungry, but that's something for another post). Now, on to the review portion:

I knew that design of the shirt was going to be fun, but while I waited for it to arrive, I was wondering what type of material it would be made from. I think you know what I'm talking about: you buy a fun t-shirt and then discover that it's made from the cheapest and flimsiest material you could imagine. I mean, some of them look as if they could fall apart just by looking at them.

Frosted Toast Crunch Giveaway

Contest is now closed.

Congratulations, Manda!!

I will be contacting you for your mailing information. I want to thank all of you who have participated and I hope that you will come back again for the next giveaway

photo of frosted toast crunch logo
When I saw this giveaway, my first thought was to remember back when I was growing up and getting ready for school. Each morning, my mom would make me breakfast and even though it was healthy and filled me up, it was usually the same thing every day. However, on those occasions when she got something new, I would actually look forward to getting up and eating breakfast. Yep, any break in the routine was something to look forward to. Granted, since I was getting ready to go to school, my day kind of went downhill from there, it was still a fun way to start the day.

Are you currently in the breakfast doldrums and trying to find a way out? Well, there's good news, because General Mills is introducing a new cereal called Frosted Toast Crunch, which has the delicious taste of frosted vanilla (frosted vanilla coating is artificially flavored). Each square of this cereal is baked with the wonderful taste of frosted vanilla and is dusted with a dash of cinnamon. We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. Frosted Toast Crunch gives you the nutrition you need with the taste you'll crave!

Congratulations, agatewood1!!

I will be contacting you for your mailing information. I want to thank all of you who have participated and I hope that you will come back again for the next giveaway.

Going Green has never felt so good and here is a company that practices what it preaches. Seventh Generation is a company that believes in using plants as a base for their raw materials and ingredients. Although, many of the plant-derived ingredients can be made synthetically using petroleum products, they believe that reliance on finite resources is not a viable option for the future of our planet. In fact, their company name, "Seventh Generation", denotes their business philosophy:

considering the needs of the next seven generations1

Here are just a few examples of how committed they are to protecting the environment:

Their 2010 product sales

...have helped save:

  • 188 billion BTUs of energy: enough to power 1,900 US homes for one year

  • 132,000 trees

  • 47.5 million gallons of water: enough to supply 373 US families for one year

  • ...have prevented these chemicals from being released into the environment:
  • 36,000 pounds of chlorine

  • 121,000 pounds of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

  • 1.6 million pounds of phosphates

  • 2,800 pounds of chlorinated hydrocarbons2

With all this in mind, I am very honoured (yes, fancy British spelling) to present a product I know you will be excited to try. Now, even though this giveaway puts the spotlight on their dish soap, they produce MANY other products that you may be interested in: everything from trash bags and laundry soap to diapers. So, for more information, videos, where to buy, and to view all their products, please visit them at... Seventh Generation

Now, let's have a little info about the dish liquid...

  • The fruit, floral and herbal ingredients used to create the scents in Seventh Generation’s new natural dish liquid are free of unnecessary synthetic colors or chemically engineered scents; they come from fields, not factories

  • Seventh Generation dish liquid contains only essential oils and botanical extracts, and delivers real cleaning power

  • Seventh Generation uses authentic ingredients like lavender from the fields of Drôme Provençale, France (located in the foothills of the Alps), clementines from sunny Calabria (Italy), and lemons from the soils of Sicily (I have to admit that these ingredients are better traveled then I am)

As an extra bonus, you can enter the “Nature Makes Perfect Scents” sweepstakes . You can have the chance to take a trip for two to visit one of the sourcing sites of Seventh Generation natural dish liquid fragrance ingredients. Just visit Seventh Generation/scents to learn more and enter.

Now, for the Giveaway...

When I was a kid growing up, dinners usually consisted of us sitting down at the dinner table and eating something I particularly didn't care for (for some strange reason, I was not a particular fan of green beans and peas). However, about once every month or so, my mom would surprise us with one of my favorite meals: tacos. I can still see her at the stove, browning the meat and then adding the seasoning. We didn't have a lot of money then, so instead of shredding cheddar cheese, she would take American cheese and chop it into tiny pieces, which she would place on each taco. That was over thirty years ago, but I remember it as though it were yesterday.

Kroger Add Up the Savings Event‏ and Giveaway

****Updated 8/2 at 12;30 AM ET****

I have been familiar with the idea of collecting boxtops for our local schools, but I have to admit that I have never really understood how it worked...until now. I did a little research and found out that for every box top you collect and send to your school's Box Tops coordinator, that school will receive 10¢ (up to $80,000 per school per year). I know that 10¢ may not sound like a lot, but it can certainly add-up quickly and every little bit will be greatly appreciated by your school.

Cheerios "Do What You Love" Contest and Giveaway

logo of cheerios do what you love contestMany of us strive to maintain a heart healthy diet, but in this hectic world, it can sometimes be difficult. Many, myself included, are tempted by just grabbing the first thing that catches our eye and call it breakfast. After all, it's much easier to just grab a donut while ordering that cup of coffee, than to try and think of a healthy alternative. Well, I'm happy to say that it got much simpler (which is a good thing in the mornings), because Cheerios cereal, which is made with 100 percent whole grain oats, is an easy way to help maintain a healthy heart. Now, since I'm one who likes to tinker, I usually like to add a banana or some blueberries to the bowl and let them swim with the cereal.

Cheerios has come up with a fun idea to help us all start thinking about making heart healthy choices,

Kroger Family of Stores' Pound for Pound Challenge‏ and Giveaway

image of the pound for pound challenge logoAs those who follow my site may know, back in August of 2008, I began a weight-loss program in order to reclaim my life. You see, back then I weighed a whopping 296 pounds of pure, unadulterated fat. It happened that one day I passed in front of a window and when I glanced up, I saw a stranger staring back at me. It was then and there that I decided I HAD to lose weight. I went online (well, there's a shock) and looked into exercise machines and since my preferred method of exercise is strength training, I narrowed my search to those types of machines. Since I'm cheap and didn't want to spend a great deal of money, I quickly eliminated machines costing too much (over $250). After my search, I ended up getting my beloved Total Gym and I've been using it ever since.

The simple act of unplugging electronics when you aren’t using them not only reduces energy, but could save you as much as 10 percent on your electric bill. You may be asking why this can save energy? Even though your toaster, microwave, coffeemaker, and television are turned off, they still draw a small amount of electricity in order to maintain their internal memories, this is called a Phantom Load.

Cart Buster Savings Event and Giveaway

image for cart buster saving event
I mentioned in a previous post about my start down the road of pursuing a more frugal lifestyle. What does this mean exactly? Well, it means that my family and myself are going to try and save money wherever we can and this means watching the ads for sales. With this said, I would like to pass along some information I just received: It seems that Kroger and its Family of Stores is having a Cart Buster Savings Event. From now until March 14th, you can save on a variety of name-brand products such as: Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, and Hamburger Helper to name just a few. I could go on naming more of the participants, but if you just take a look at the photo on the top of the page, you can get a pretty good idea as to who is participating.

If you're not sure whether you have a Kroger's near you, here's a list of some the stores that belong to the Kroger family: Kroger, Ralph´s, King Soopers, City Market, Dillons, Smith´s, Fry´s, QFC, Baker´s, Owen´s, Jay C Food Stores, Hilander, Gerbes, Food4Less, Pay Less Super Markets, Scott´s Food & Pharmacy, and Fred Meyer.

I will be covering this in more detail in a later article, but for added savings look around for some manufacturer coupons you can use (you can go to coupons.com). I know that General Mills has several that are currently active. I'll be heading over to Fred Meyer tomorrow and I'm going to be on the lookout for some items that I can put in the pantry I'm starting. Oh, and since this will be my first pantry, I'm open to any suggestions as to what to put in it.

Now for the part you've been waiting for: They have provided me with one card to give away to a lucky reader. If you would like to receive a $25.00 gift card, just let me know in the comments and I will pick one lucky winner. If you happen to win, I'll send your mailing information to Blogspark and Kroger, who will send you the gift card.

Tony's® Pizza Giveaway

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Tony's Pizza. All opinions are 100% mine.

I was being particularly lazy the other night, so I decided to grab a pizza out of the freezer and pop it in the oven. I had already planned on heating some of my infamous soup for my wife, so the pizza would be for my daughters. Well, I hadn't tried a Tony's Pizza for years and I was looking forward to trying it again. I opened the box and the first thing that caught my eye is the fact that it's not round; it was square with rounded corners. Well, that's different, but as I've been told, it's not the shape but the taste that matters. So, I popped it in the oven and about twelve minutes later it was ready.

The pizza was just large enough to make a good meal and it disappeared very quickly. I stole a portion from one of my daughters and I have to admit that the new crust is much better than the original. The texture is lighter and it tastes more like what pizza crust is meant to taste like. The toppings were very good, but they need to be a little more generous in the amount they put on the pizza. Yes, I understand it helps to keep the cost down, but it's just a thought. Finally, the sauce was very good and it was something both my daughters commented on. One of my kids NEVER likes sauce on her pizza, but she really enjoyed the flavor of this pizza sauce.

Now, as for the price: we got this at Winco and they charge a whopping $0.98. This is a great deal for the amount of pizza you get. This is a great pizza to give the kids or to have if you just want a nice snack.

Tony's® Pizza would like you to try their new crispy crust pizza, so they are giving away coupons for a free pizza. I have five coupons to give away, so if you would like one, just comment and let me know and I will then contact you for your mailing info and send you your coupon for a free pizza. After all, free is good, right?
