The Snow of 2013

Well, it seems that this year has started with quite a bang. Usually, we only have to shovel snow a few time during the winter, but this past week has been exceptional. On Monday, it snowed non-stop all day and I had to shovel 4 times, just to keep up. Yes, I could wait until it stops, but then I would have to shovel MUCH MORE snow AND it would be much harder to do. Also, I don't mind the work and I like the exercise...it sure beats using the Nordic Track!! On Thursday, I had to shovel once (my wife shoveled when she got home, since I injured my arm a few days ago). They even had to cancel school, SNOW DAY, which I know the kids loved. On Friday, I ended-up shoveling twice. In total, we had close to 8 inches, if not more, since Monday.

Anyway, here's a photo my wife took at the VA Medical Center that will show you how much we got on Monday...

Here's a picture that I took yesterday of the accumulated shovelings (is that even a word?) of our driveway. You can see that Brutus and Killer, our guard flamingos, are still on duty :) ...

From today for the next week, we are expecting highs in the lower 20's and lows near 3 and below.
Stay warm, everyone!!

Here's a Cool Thought

I was originally going to post a few pictures of the strip of lawn by our driveway and ask your landscaping ideas on what I should do with it. But, I think I'll just leave that for another day.

Now, since it is SO hot out today, I decided that I would much rather post a photo reminding us of much cooler days yet to come.

Sending you all some cool thoughts...

Snow Day

Actually, for the first time in many years, the schools closed for the day (Wednesday). Anyhow, here are the rest of the snow pictures that I took. We had roughly 7+ inches on the ground and when I went out to shovel it (we don't have a snow blower, since it is rare we get this much snow at one time), I quickly discovered that it was a wet, slushy-type of snow; that means more work. Heavy work. Not a good thing, especially for someone lazy like me.

Well, as I said, when I went outside to shovel, I saw out neighbor already shoveling our section of the frontage road. When I got closer, I saw why: he couldn't get his truck onto it. So, the fun began. Together, we were able to shovel to his house and then onto ours. In the process, I helped dig his wife's car out of the snow and he kindly dug a path up our driveway to our garage. In all, it took a total of just over three hours (including breaks) to finish (with an hour and a half just for our driveway). Oh, and so I can have an excuse to include a shameless plug, if you have not seen the photos from the previous evening, you can see them here in the post titled, Let it Snow...Let it Snow...Let it Snow Now, onto the show...

The next day...

Let it Snow...Let it Snow...Let it Snow...

I figured that I would bore you with some photos taken during our latest snow storm. Enjoy...

These are the little trash cans we use to store the bird and squirrel food. This was taken at around 10:00 pm last night...

A Slick Commute

My wife takes the bus into work, but she still has to drive just under a mile to get to the bus stop and today marked the first day that there was ice and snow on the roads. This being the case, I would like to share an Email my wife sent to me after she got into work..

Tim,

I got in okay. What a ZOOOOOOO, those idiots were driving as if there were no snow!!! It was a ice skating rink and they were driving as close as they do on every other day!!! I swear it is the Darwin awards every first snow. I saw pickups down town that could not get a grip on the roads and still they follow too close!!! I was driving 35 on State and felt that was too fast (and was being run over!!) aaaaaand TWO cars decided that it was not any problem to just pull right in front of me because I was leaving FIVE plus car lengths between me and the one in front. I had to honk at one because he only had maybe a car length and a half when he pulled out in front of me and I was pumping my breaks like crazy to not hit him. Of course after I honked he accelerated like mad and followed too close to the one in front of him. I never have cars pull out like that when there is no snow…why now!!! If no one dies it is because I am praying like crazy for these IQ compromised people!!!! Thank goodness I wore my shoes with tread!! I should have worn my snow boots!!! I knew that the snow plows and been going by, but I thought there was much less snow then there actually was!!! Oh well……happy Monday!!!

See ya later,

Love

Mary

Just a hint: when there is ice and snow on the roads, that means the roads are SLICK, so SLOW DOWN.
