Waiting for Dinner

This guy here (we believe it is a Sharp-shinned or Cooper's Hawk), comes around every week or so to dine on some of our dinner guests. He usually gets one and then will sit on the fence and eat it. However, today he was out of luck, so he just sat there for well over 30 minutes looking around. You cannot see it in this photo, but there was a squirrel feeding at our squirrel feeder. Sorry about the picture quality, but our camera leaves much to be desired.

A few weeks ago, I opened our patio door to go outside, which naturally scared the birds and caused them to fly off. Well, a Sharp-Shinned or Cooper's Hawk swooped down and grabbed an Oregon Junco midair. When he landed, the hawk covered the junco with his wings and then just glared at me. Naturally, I stepped back inside.

Winter is Coming

You know it's getting cold when...

Oh, on an unrelated note, instead of waiting until the last minute, like I did the past few years, I will begin posting my Thanksgiving menu and related recipes. These are the actual recipes I have used over the past few years and they have been very well received. If you are still undecided on what to make, I hope one or more of these recipes will inspire you.

Koko on the Hunt

Alrighty, I have to do some yard work before the boss gets home, so I figured that I would share another epic photo from the Koko Chronicles.

Even before we have the chance to toss it into the trash, his feline senses hone-in on the target and subdue it. If you look closely at his eyes, you will notice that he has just turned-off his lasers. The carnage was unbelievable. Here, we see him proudly posing with his latest kill...

It's for the Birds

Since I have the house to myself this week, I've been concentrating on completing the third rewrite on my story. There's a deadline of 30 June to get it submitted so I can get my ONE printed copy of it. Because of that and doing the yard work I've been putting off since May, I haven't been posting a lot lately.

With that said, here is one of our daily visitors to our backyard. This guy and his MANY friends have taken it upon themselves to eat us out of house and home.

Intermission for Finals

Due to finals this week and the need to help the tax deductions with their studies, I won't have much time to post my usual intuitive, thought-provoking, and generally head-scratching posts. Now, because I don't have a video of a hot dog chasing a box of popcorn, please enjoy the next few days of pictures...

Scenes from a Parking Lot

My oldest had to take her semester finals this week. The place where I had to take her was literally clear across town and because I did not want to waste gas on extra trips, I decided to just wait in the car until she was done. So, in preparation for a four-hour wait each day, I packed myself a little activity bag to keep me busy: I included my Bible, a book, crossword puzzles, an iPod, and a bag of popcorn. Also, because it was frigid and windy, I had a coat and gloves. Yes, I looked weird, but at least I was warm...sort of.

Anyway, while sitting in the parking lot the first day, I saw an incredible view of the clouds sneaking over the mountains. Of course, I did not have a camera with me, but I made sure I had it with me the next day. Naturally, these pictures do not compare to the scene I saw the previous day, but I think they're pretty cool.

Koko Participates in International Box Day

I was just going through my feeds and I discovered it was International Box Day. So, in recognition of this most prestigious of days, Koko would like to take this opportunity to put in his two cents. Oh, if you came here for Friday Fotos, please scroll down.
