Adding Pinterest Pin Buttons to your Images in Blogger

This is something I just came across today, so I figured I would share this with you. If you are a member of Pinterest, then you know about pinning images from other sites and about using the "Pin It" button on your web browser. But, what about being able to have other people "Pin" images from your site? Well, they can still use the "Pin It" button, but to make it even easier for them, why not place a button right below the image you want them to Pin?

Well, this is what I will try and explain today. First, you will need to login to your Pinterest account and then Click "Pin It Button" under the "about" tab on the upper right of your profile page. Scroll down until you get to the section titles, "Pin It Button for Web Sites." Also, you can just follow the link here to the Pinterest Goodie Page
Here's a screenshot of what you will see. Your URL areas will be blank, I just let you see what I was working on to give you an idea of what it will look like when complete...

  • First, go to the actual page that your image appears and copy the url
  • At Pinterest, at the top of the section, you will see, "URL of the page the pin is on:". Paste the url here

  • In your Blogger editor, click on the HTML button and come down to where your image appears. Copy the URL address of that image

Here is what your image/photo URL will look like...

  • Provide a description of your photo. This is what will appear in the Pinterest "Pin It" window when it opens

  • Find, "Add this code to your page, right where you want the button to appear:". While still in HTML mode, copy the code that appears and place it below your photo.
  • You might also want to be sure that you place the code before the closing CENTER tag, so it looks good
Here is what the code will look like when placed under your photo... photo of what code will look like when completed
  • Finally, at the bottom of the section, where you see "Add this code to your page only once, directly above the closing tag:" you will need to copy the javascript and place it in your template just above the tag
If you are unsure, I have included a few photos on how to get to your template. Also, be sure to SAVE your template before making any changes...

After you place the code and save, go back to your Blogger editor and click "Preview" to see that everything looks good.

Hexie the Hexane Pet

Katie wanted to do a fun extra credit assignment for her chemistry class. So, using her molecular set, she built a fun animal and named it Hexie. The black balls represent carbon and the yellow represent hydrogen. Hexie is a hexane molecule (6 carbon and 14 hydrogen atoms) and this is what she sent in to her teacher. Oh, her teacher loved it!!

This is Hexie, our new pet. I named him Hexie, because naming him C6H14 seemed a little impersonal. As you can see, he is leash-trained and loves to play with his ball. Unfortunately, he’s not quite house-trained, since he still leaves little piles of carbon on the floor and small puddles of hydrogen. When that happens, we have to put him outside for a little “time-out.”

He’s just a baby now, but when he grows up, he’ll be an Octane. Wow, I can’t wait! Well, it’s time to take him for a little walk.

A Mother's Work is Never Done

I heard a lot noise outside the other morning and when I went to look, I caught these guys on our back patio ...

I threw out some stale bread for the birds and this mom decided that it would be a great meal for her babies. They followed her all over the yard trying to get their fair share. They even ended up on our barbeque AND on the handle of our power edger (Yes, lined up in a nice row with mommy in the middle)! Unfortunately, by the time I got the camera, they had moved to the patio.

Ginger Chicken and Sausage with Brown Rice, Vegetables, and Spinach

Here's a great recipe to use if you are trying to find something healthy (especially if you omit the sausage) AND filling to eat for dinner. Please don't let the number of ingredients put you off, because although it does take a little over an hour to prepare, it is very easy to do. For just two people, this recipe will make meals for just over a week (depending on portion size). In other words, this recipe makes A LOT!!

Also, you can add just about anything to this recipe that you want. I have used pork instead of chicken and it tastes just as good. Feel free to experiment. This recipe is a great base from which to play around with different combinations of veggies and meats. Oh, it also goes great with Naan bread (an Indian bread). This is a flat bread, you can use it as a spoon to scoop the rice mixture. Very tasty!!
