Tips Before Starting your Weight Loss Journey

photo of koko in a cabinetI was asked by Angie at Angie's Healthy Living Blog to be a guest author on her site today. In the article I wrote, I will be sharing my motivations for beginning my weight loss journey. So, with this theme in mind, I have decided to dust-off an article I wrote a while back and share it with you once again (my way of saying I'm too lazy to actually sit down and write a new one).

FlatBread Pizza

I am in the process of researching Biga, which is an Italian bread starter. I'm planning on trying my hand at baking some rustic breads. So, while I delve into the wonderful world of rustic breads (and clean the BBQ, so we can actually use it this summer), let me share something The Boss did this weekend...

My wife met-up with some of her friends this weekend and had lunch at the FlatBread Community Oven. They are the only Neapolitan pizzeria in Idaho to be certified by the Verace Pizza Napoletana Association, and one of only 28 restaurants in the United States to carry the certification. They bake their pizzas in a 900 degree wood-fired oven.

She ordered the CAPRICCIOSA, which has: Fior di Latte (type of mozzarella), Artichoke Hearts, Herbed Portabello, Olives, Prosciutto, Fresh Basil, and Pomodoro (sauce).
Here's a shot of the pizza she ordered...

Yum Yum is not Impressed

I just finished working on this template and I'm debating whether or not to keep it. I know that the header image is kinda amateurish, but it's the best I can do with free software. The main difference in this addition of the template, is I removed a lot of unnecessary coding and, as you can see, I also removed the texture from the page. The reason behind all this madness, was to increase the load speed of my site.

A Review of My Funny Dad, Harry...

photo of book cover for my funny dad harry

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to win a giveaway at Red Pine Mountain. The prize was an autographed copy of the book, My Funny Dad, Harry. For just over two years, I have been blogging friends with the author, Karen Zemek, and have been wanting to read her book for some time. Well, this past weekend I was able to get the chance.

Some Points to Ponder

I would like to say Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there! As a dad myself, I want to take a little break, so let me unleash on you something I published over a year ago. I hope you enjoy it...

As you can tell, my mind is in a weird mood. This happens from time-to-time, so I felt I might as well share these ramblings.

Koko on the Hunt

Alrighty, I have to do some yard work before the boss gets home, so I figured that I would share another epic photo from the Koko Chronicles.

Even before we have the chance to toss it into the trash, his feline senses hone-in on the target and subdue it. If you look closely at his eyes, you will notice that he has just turned-off his lasers. The carnage was unbelievable. Here, we see him proudly posing with his latest kill...

It's for the Birds

Since I have the house to myself this week, I've been concentrating on completing the third rewrite on my story. There's a deadline of 30 June to get it submitted so I can get my ONE printed copy of it. Because of that and doing the yard work I've been putting off since May, I haven't been posting a lot lately.

With that said, here is one of our daily visitors to our backyard. This guy and his MANY friends have taken it upon themselves to eat us out of house and home.

Yum Yum and the Spring

Yum Yum playing with her spring...

Of course, she has to mess-up everything that she can. One of her favorite and daily things to do is to take her spring, carry it into our room, jump on our freshly-made bed, and play. You she see our bed after she gets done playing on it.

How to Make a Badge for your Blog

I did a lot of research on this several months ago, but never got around to sharing what I discovered. So, I will take this opportunity to reveal the fruits of my labours. I wrote this article, so you can copy the code from my site and then just input the information for your particular site. Once your values are input, you should be good to go.

As you may notice, the code below is in two sections. The first section contains the code for the clickable image that is displayed on your site. The second part of the code is for the text-box and the code your readers will use to display your badge.

Okay, once you have an image you want to use, let's get started...

The Rose Manor Motel

Most summers when my sister and I were growing up, our family would take a trip to Portland, Oregon and spend four days traveling around the area. On the first night, we would go to a small diner in Oregon City and have the best fish and chips. The next day, we would go to Mount Hood and spend a few hours walking around at Timberline Lodge. I was actually lucky enough to have my picture taken with the Lassie and the ranger from the TV show (Yes, this was back in the late 60's and early 70's).

All this was said, because during my travels on the Internet, I came across a picture of the motel we always stayed at. I remember that we would leave at 3:30AM and even though my dad drove tweleve hours to get to Portland from Stockton, Califorina (this was before I-5 was completed), he would always take us swimming in the pool when we got there. I have to say that was one of the high points of the trip.

Intermission for Finals

Due to finals this week and the need to help the tax deductions with their studies, I won't have much time to post my usual intuitive, thought-provoking, and generally head-scratching posts. Now, because I don't have a video of a hot dog chasing a box of popcorn, please enjoy the next few days of pictures...

How to Use Jump Breaks in Blogger

Have you ever gone to a site and seen those "Read More-->>>" links? Well, this is going to tell you how to put these in your posts. These jump breaks are very popular in SEO circles as a way of getting your visitors to click-through to an interior page on your site. However, I plan to use them to help speed-up the loading of my main page...

You Comment, I Follow

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been seeing this phrase a lot lately. But what does it mean? Does it mean that if I leave a comment on your blog that somehow you are going to follow me back to my blog? Well, that’s what I thought it meant, until I did some research...

How to Enable Printer Friendly Pages

As I was going through and reading the blogs I follow, I noticed that one of them had a pretty nifty (I know, dated saying), button on their site; it was a "Print this Page" button. Basically, what this does is when you press the button, only the blog post and the comments will print out. The rest of the site, including the sidebars, header, and the footer are not printed. This allows the reader to print out an article that interests them, without having the entire blog printed...

Tips to Copy Protect your Content

Due to the increase in content piracy, I have decided to do some research and put together some resources which you can use to help prevent this from occurring. The information presented here is for your benefit to use or not, as you desire. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or if you know of any other ideas I may have left out. The resources mentioned will not stop the die-hard pirates, but it should curb the novices and give them pause to think...

Love Those Wacky Packages

Most days after school, my friend Jeff and I would mount our bikes and make the trek to Dells, a local hardware store. We would leave our bikes out front and rush inside, heading directly to where the gum and candy were on display. Our ultimate goal: Wacky Packages. You see, you had to be quick, because they sold out very fast. I remember on more than one occasion, we were too late and had made the journey for nothing.

I loved collecting those things and sticking them on my binders. The packages came with several stickers (I don't remember exactly how many) and a stick of bubble gum. I would put the gum in a plastic bag and keep it out in the tool shed, because I wasn't allowed to have gum with sugar in it. For some Wacky reason, I came across this website and just couldn't resist this quick trek down memory lane.

Does anyone remember these...

Puppets and Plays

When I was in the sixth grade, I started going to summer school just about every year. The first year I went, I took a class called Puppets and Plays. Basically, we all made our own puppets and then we got into groups and wrote a play, which we would then perform for the class. Our group decided to do a fun sketch using the song, The Streak by Ray Stevens. I was lucky enough to play the news announcer. It was so popular, that we went "on the road" to other classrooms to perform it.
